Integrated teaching curriculum and Semester System has been
introduced in the University and its affiliated Medical College (PMC Nawabshah)
for MBBS and BDS Programmes with effect from Academic Session 2007-2008 which
will progress to 2nd year during academic session 2008-2009 and subsequently
will be extended to 3rd to Final Year.
The semester system is a unique system in which education is delivered into a
process where students can learn according to their interest. After evaluation
of their performance/ progress assessed through different types of tests /
assessments, they earn degree on their cumulative performance throughout the
Programme of their study and they are not compelled to commit every thing to
memory for once a year performance.
The academic session shall comprise of two semesters each of sixteen (16) weeks;
out of this period fourteen (14) weeks shall be the actual teaching period and
remaining two (2) weeks shall be for preparatory leave.
The teaching to first semester may normally commence from 25TH November and may
continue upto 1st week of March including one week winter vacation. There will
be two (2) weeks preparatory leave from last week of March.
Attendance of the students
The University is determined to improve its teaching
standards to get ISO certification. The recording of attendance is essential to
determine eligibility of students for his appearance in the examination. Any
student who fail to maintain minimum attendance as prescribed by University for
appearance of examination, his examination form shall not be forwarded to the
Controller of Examinations.
OSPE/OSCE System of Examinations
To provide uniform and bias free assessment of practical
examination and to keep pace with improving teaching standard within country &
abroad, OSPE pattern has been implemented to conduct practical / viva voce
examination across the board. The teachers will take their periodical test on
basic and clinical side on OSPE pattern from January, 2010.
ORGANIZATION OF SEMESTER SYSTEM
-
Promotion from one academic year to next higher academic
year
-
Policy of conducting Re-sit (repeat) examination
a- First and Second Semester examinations.
First Semester students who after appearing in First Semester
(Regular) examination, either declared pass or fail will be allowed promotion to
Second Semester.
Upon promotion in Second Semester, students who have either
passed or failed in First Semester examination both will be allowed to appear in
Second Semester examination.
Pending result of Second Semester examination, if the classes
for Third Semester are commenced, students of Second Semester (Either passed or
failed in first semester) will be allowed to attend the classes of Third
semester.
After announcement of Second Semester examination result,
students of First and Second Semesters will fall in the following groups:
-
Passed First and Second Semesters.
-
Passed Second Semester but failed in First Semester.
-
Passed First Semester but failed in Second Semester
-
Failed in both the Semesters.
Students under category b, c and d will then be allowed
re-sit examinations of First and Second Semesters simultaneously while they
remain under study process of Third Semester.
After announcement of re-sit (repeat) examinations result of
both first and second semesters, the students will be bifurcated into the
following groups:
-
Passed First and Second semesters examinations completely
they will continue in Third Semester.
-
Students who failed either in First Semester
or in Second Semester or both examinations shall be reverted i.e termed back
to First Semester or in Second Semester or both with junior batch.
Above group of students of MBBS / BDS after term back will repeat the failure
subject(s) of Semester I or II or both with junior batch.
Important: In case of their failure in
subject(s) of 1st / 2nd / both Semesters after re-sit / repeat examination they
shall cease to be eligible for further medical education in Pakistan in
pursuance of rules framed by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC),
Islamabad. Their names shall be struck off from roll of University / Medical
Colleges.
b-Third and Fourth Semester examinations (1st
Professional Part-II).
Third Semester students who after appearing in Third Semester (regular)
examination, either declared pass or fail will be allowed promotion to Fourth
Semester.
Upon promotion in Fourth Semester, students who have either passed or failed in
Third Semester examination both will be allowed to appear in Fourth Semester
Examination.
Pending result of Fourth Semester examination, if the classes
for Fifth Semester are commenced, students of Fourth Semester (Either passed or
failed in Third Semester) will be allowed to attend the classes of Fifth
semester.
After announcement of Fourth Semester examination result,
students of Third and Fourth Semesters will fall in the following groups:
-
Passed Third and Fourth Semesters.
-
Passed Fourth Semester but failed in Third Semester.
-
Passed Third Semester but failed in Fourth Semester
-
Failed in both the Semesters.
The students under category b, c and d will then be allowed
re-sit examinations of Third and Fourth Semesters simultaneously while they
remain under study process of Fifth Semester.
After announcement of re-sit (repeat) examinations results of
both Third and Fourth Semesters, the students will be bifurcated into following
groups:
-
Passed Third and Fourth Semesters examinations completely
they will continue in Fifth Semester.
-
Students who failed either in Third Semester
or in Fourth Semester or both examinations shall be reverted i.e termed back
to Third Semester or in Fourth Semester or both with junior batch.
Above group of students of MBBS after term back will repeat
the failure subject(s) of Semester I or II or both with junior batch.
Important: In case of their failure in
subject(s) of 3rd / 4th / both Semesters after re-sit / repeat examination they
shall cease to be eligible for further medical education in Pakistan in
pursuance of Rules framed by Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC),
Islamabad. Their names shall be struck off from roll of University/Medical
College.
c-Fifth and Sixth Semester examinations.
Fifth Semester students who after appearing in Fifth Semester
(regular) examination, either declared results of pass or fail will be allowed
promotion to Sixth Semester.
Upon promotion in Sixth Semester, students who have either
passed or failed in Fifth Semester examination both will be allowed to appear in
Sixth Semester Examination.
Pending result of Sixth Semester examination, if the classes
for Seventh Semester are commenced, students of Sixth Semester (Either passed or
failed in Fifth Semester) will be allowed to attend the classes of Seventh
Semester.
After announcement of Sixth Semester examination result,
students of Fifth and Sixth Semesters will fall in the following groups:
-
Passed Fifth and Sixth Semesters.
-
Passed Sixth Semester but failed in Fifth Semester.
-
Passed Fifth Semester but failed in Sixth Semester
-
Failed in both the Semesters.
The students under category b, c and d will then be allowed
re-sit examinations of Fifth and Sixth Semesters simultaneously while they
remain under study process of Seventh Semester.
After announcement of re-sit (repeat) examinations results of
both Fifth and Sixth Semesters, the students will be bifurcated into the
following groups:
-
Passed Fifth and Sixth Semesters examinations completely
they will continue in Seventh Semester.
-
Students who failed either in Fifth Semester
or in Sixth Semester or both examinations shall be reverted i.e termed back
to Fifth Semester or in Sixth Semester or both with junior batch.
d- Seventh and Eighth Semester examinations.
Seventh Semester students who after appearing in Seventh
Semester (regular) examination, either declared pass or fail will be allowed
promotion to Eighth Semester.
Upon promotion in Eighth Semester, students who have either
passed or failed in Seventh Semester examination both will be allowed to appear
in Eighth Semester Examination.
In case of B.D.S, students who will be declared pass both in
Seventh and Eighth Semesters, they will be declared to have passed B.D.S
examination completely and shall be awarded degree. However, in case of failure
in either Seventh or Eighth Semester or they will be allowed appear in re-sit
examination and will continue to repeat failure subject(s) in re-sit examination
both till they completely pass B.D.S examination.
However, in case of M.B.B.S students pending result of Eight
Semester examination, if the classes for Ninth Semester are commenced, students
of Eight Semester (either passed or failed in Seventh Semester) will be allowed
to attend the classes of Ninth Semester.
After announcement of Eighth Semester examination result,
students of Seventh and Eighth Semesters will fall in the following groups:
-
Passed Seventh and Eighth Semesters.
-
Passed Eighth Semester but failed in Seventh Semester.
-
Passed Seventh Semester but failed in Eighth Semester
-
Failed in both the Semesters.
The students under category b, c and d will then be allowed
re-sit examinations of Seventh and Eighth Semesters simultaneously while they
remain under study process of Ninth Semester.
After announcement of re-sit (repeat) examinations results of both Seventh and
Eighth Semesters, the students will be bifurcated into the following groups:
-
Passed Seventh and Eighth Semester examinations
completely they will continue in Ninth Semester.

Students who failed either in Seventh
Semester or in Eighth Semester or both examinations shall be reverted i.e
termed back to Seventh Semester or in Eighth Semester or both with junior
batch.
e- Ninth and Tenth Semester examinations.
Ninth Semester students who after appearing in Ninth Semester (regular)
examination, either declared pass or fail will be allowed promotion to Tenth
Semester.
Upon promotion in Tenth Semester, students who have either
passed or failed in Ninth Semester examination both will be allowed to appear in
Tenth Semester Examination.
After announcement of Tenth Semester examination result,
student of Ninth and Tenth Semester will fall in the following groups:
-
Passed Ninth and Tenth Semesters.
-
Passed Tenth Semester but failed in Ninth Semester.
-
Passed Ninth Semester but failed in Tenth Semester
-
Failed in both the Semesters.
The students under category (a) will be declared to have
passed MBBS examination completely and shall be awarded degree.
The students under category b, c and d will then be allowed
re-sit examinations of Ninth and Tenth Semesters simultaneously.
After announcement of re-sit (repeat) examinations results of
both Ninth and Tenth Semesters, the students will be bifurcated into the
following groups:
-
Passed Ninth and Tenth Semesters examinations completely
they will be declared to have passed M.B.B.S examination and shall be
awarded degree.
-
Students who failed either in Ninth Semester
or in Tenth Semester or both examinations shall continue to repeat failure
subject(s) in re-sit examinations till they completely pass M.B.B.S
examination.
The courses curricula and examinations for the degree of MBBS
and BDS are governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Pakistan Medical &
Dental Council currently enforced, as amended from time to time and as adopted
by Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro. The course of
studies for MBBS normally extended to a period of five academic years while for
BDS of four academic years. The semester wise breakup of teaching main courses
and subjects for MBBS & BDS are as under:
