This Institute also has state of the art Dental College
which is capable of providing comprehensive dental treatment
mostly free of charge, only the material cost is charged for
very expensive treatments. There are eight, out patients

The clinical working of DIKIOHS is augmented by good
sterilization protocol with latest gadgetry. All departments
are provided with materials and equipments for treatment.
Free dental camps were also organized by DIKIOHS for dental
check up, tooth extraction, amalgam fillings and scaling of
teeth free of charge information leaflets were also
distributed. These camps were held for public at NICVD,
kidney centre and other areas in the vicinity of DIKIOHS.
More than 30,000 patients have already been treated in this
hospital during seventeen months.
This Institute has increased number of highly qualified
faculty members un matched in any private or public sector
dental college and is the only dental college with maximum
highly qualified faculty.
Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM & DC), has approved
the college to train fifty (50) BDS students in each batch.
The first and second year classes of BDS are being
conducted.
SEMESTER SYSTEM HAS BEEN INTRODUCED BY DOW UNIVERSITY FROM
THIS YEAR STUDENTS ARE BEING PREPARED ACCORDINGLY.
Weekly seminar are scheduled to have presentation from every
department on rotation basis. The topics are related to
different specialties of dentistry, eg Prosthodontics and
Orthodontics etc. These seminars also cover topics of
‘Infection Control in Dentistry’ in which the dental
technicians and assistants also participate.
In addition to weekly programs, monthly seminars are also
held in which renowned guest speakers from other dental
institutions within the country and abroad participate. Dr.
S.P. Singh, Assistant Professor orthodontics oral health
sciences centre PGIMER – Chandigarh, India spoke on
‘Interceptive orthodontic treatment in mixed dentition’ and
‘Management of Class III malocclusion by combined
orthodontic and surgical treatment’.
Workshops on ‘Basic Life Support (BLS)’ are also conducted
for BDS students as per schedule of Dow University.
Third annual international symposium of Dow University of
Health Sciences had a full day session on dentistry in which
the faculty members of DIKIOHS made presentations on various
topics. It was well attended by reputable personnel of this
profession.
The dental technicians are the back bone of the health care
system and there is a dirth of dental technicians not only
in Pakistan but also abroad. Countries including USA & UK.
School of Dental Care professionals (DCP) has also been
established as a part of Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute
of Oral Health Sciences, where these technicians are trained
in following two domains:

Seventy five (75) premedical students are studying these
Courses after the entrance test and selection on merit Cum
choice basis School of Dental Care Professionals (DCP) of
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences (DIKIOHS).
A team of experts including Mr. Pat Power, Head of
international office from Queen Mary’s school of Medicine
and Dentistry, University of London visited DIKIOHS. They
have agreed to have collaboration of DIKIOHS with Queen
Mary’s school for various faculty development and exchange
programs including split PhD Programs, joint research
projects and training of dental auxiliaries as per
international standards.
A Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) has also been introduced at
Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences (DIKIOHS),
DUHS to help the institution in formulating an appropriate
syllabus and execute structured teaching program with proper
assessment and evaluation under the support and guidance of
the Higher Education Commission.
This is the first dental institute of its type to introduce
the mentor system to supervise and resolve the problems of
students and guide them in proper manner and to solve the
perplexity of students. This is an excellent way for proper
vigilance of students regarding their studies. Weekly
meetings of students are arranged with their respective
allocated mentors to discuss studies, and other problems
which helps in polishing the student and boost up their
energy. Weekly presentation and quizzes have also been
arranged with the Head of various Departments (HODs).These
meetings and assessments are to refresh the course and
prepare them for examinations.
Extra curricular activities refresh and accelerate the
student. These are organized on monthly basis. Students have
full access to the internet in the digital library to keep
pace up with the needs of update.
MDS program has also been launched by the Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad
Khan Institute of Oral Health Sciences by the untiring
efforts of Vice Chancellor to produce excellent
professionals and subject specialist in the Basic Dental
Science Subjects. This program is supervised by highly
qualified professionals of Pakistan.
Research Projects have also been launched in collaboration
with various organizations e.g. Pakistan Steel Mill (PSM)
N.E.D, and OJHA to produce good teachers and students.
Inshallah DIKIOHS will become centre of excellence for
undergraduate and postgraduate students, besides providing
high class training to Dental Technologists.
Fellowship training is being provided by the Department of
Prosthodontics as it has already been recognized for four
years fellowship training by college of Physicians and
Surgeons of Pakistan (CPSP). Soon other clinical departments
will also be allowed for fellowship training after
inspection.
MASTERS IN DENTAL SURGERY (MDS) have also been started in
this institute. There are six semesters based on three years
program in BASIC DENTAL SCIENCES to train personnel who wish
to enter teaching and research career in dental and Allied
Health Sciences.
