The first consolidated list of
candidates desirous of getting admission to MBBS first
professional year classes at nine public sector medical colleges
in Punjab was issued by the University of Health Sciences (UHS)
on October 25, 2008.
As many as 18,270 candidates had on Sept 14 appeared in the
entrance test for admission to all medical and dental
institution of Punjab, including the King Edward Medical College
University (KEMU) and the Fatima Jinnah Medical College.
The first list contained names, FSc marks, entry test marks and
percentage etc of the 1,862 candidates, eligible to get
admission to the MBBS first professional year against open merit
seats only.
The list of candidates eligible to get admission to BDS first
professional year would be displayed within three days or so,
added the spokesman. He said that many candidates had submitted
forms for admission to both medical and dental colleges of the
province. Such candidates would be asked to retain either the
MBBS or the BDS seat and submit an undertaking in this regard.
Giving break-up of the MBBS seats, he said that 262 candidates
would get admission to King Edward Medical University; 240 to
Allama Iqbal Medical College; 160 to Fatima Jinnah Medical
College; 142 to Services Institute of Medical Sciences, Lahore;
229 to Nishtar Medical College, Multan; 251 each to Punjab
Medical College, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi Medical College,
Rawalpindi; 249 to Quaid-i-Azam Medical College, Bahawalpur, and
78 to Shaikh Zayed Medical College, Rahim Yar Khan. Dawn
1,862 students
gain admission to govt medical colleges
Lahore: Around 1,862 FSc
students from the Punjab have been declared eligible for
admission in nine public sector medical colleges of the province
in the first merit list announced on Saturday.
The first open merit list was displayed at the University of
Health Sciences (UHS) with a huge crowd of students and parents
at the premises to see the results. UHS Vice-Chancellor Dr
Mubashir said that the entire process was carried out with full
transparency.
Around 16,487 students took the entry test for admission to
public and private medical colleges for the session of 2008-09,
which was arranged by the UHS administration.
Merit Formula:
Dr Mubashir said that according to the merit formula, 70 percent
marks from FSc and 30 percent marks from the entry test were
considered. He said that transparency in the admission procedure
had allowed students from southern Punjab and various other
backwards districts to top the merit list.
King Edward Medical
College (KEMC): Around
262 open merit seats are available at the KEMC. The first
candidate scored 92.2 percent. The last eligible candidate in
the first list had a percentage of 87.4909 percent.
Allama Iqbal
Medical College (AIMC):
Around 240 open merit seats are available at the AIMC. The first
candidate selected for admission scored 90.4 percent. The last
eligible candidate had a percentage of 85.9091 percent.
Fatima Jinnah
Medical College (FJMC):
Around 160 open merit seats are available at the FJMC. The first
candidate who was selected for admission secured 87.3455
percent. The last eligible candidate in the first list had a
percentage of 84.8091 percent.
Services Institute
of Medical Sciences (SIMS):
Around 142 open merit seats are available at the SIMS. The first
candidate who was selected for admission secured 85.9 percent.
The last eligible candidate in the first list had a percentage
of 84.4182 percent.
Nashter Medical
College (NMC): Around 229
open merit seats are available at the NMC. The first candidate
who was selected for admission secured 86.134 percent. The last
eligible candidate in the first list had a percentage of 84.6
percent.
Rawalpindi Medical
College (RMC): Around 251
open merit seats are available at the RMC. The first candidate
who was selected for admission scored 91.5 percent. The last
eligible candidate in the first list had a percentage of 83.6727
percent.
Sheikh Zayed
Medical College (SZMC):
Around 78 open merit seats are available at the SZMC. The first
candidate who was selected for admission secured 83.4091
percent. The last eligible candidate in the first list had a
percentage of 83.3545 percent.
Quaid-e-Azam
Medical College (QAMC):
Around 249 open merit seats are available at the QAMC. The first
candidate scored 88.6545 percent. The last eligible candidate in
the first list had a percentage of 83.4545 percent.
Punjab Medical
College (PMC): Around 251
open merit seats are available at the PMC. The first candidate
secured 92.5455 percent. The last eligible candidate in the
first list had a percentage of 83.7 percent.
Second merit list:
UHS Communication Adviser Muhammd Atif said that the second
merit list would be displayed on
November 15,
and the third one
would be displayed on November 30. |
