For the clinical teachings of medical students of Punjab Medical College classes are held in the clinical departments of, Allied Hospital and DHQ Hospital.

Many clinical departments have been separated as individual unit over last few years and now working as a sub specialty. There are 4 medical and 4 surgical units in whole.

Psychiatry, Chest diseases, and Dermatology departments are present in DHQ hospital while rest are present in Allied Hospital.

Gynecology and ENT departments are present in both hospitals. Gynecology II is present in DHQ Hospital while Gynecology I and ENT I & II are present in Allied Hospital.

Department of Medicine

MEDICAL UNIT I

Endoscopy facilities include Gastroscopy, In. Sclerotherapy, Colonoscopy, Esophageal stricture dilatation etc. Post graduate trainees for FCPS-II and MRCP-II are 14 in number. Regular post graduate teaching and tests are routine. Dr. Irshad-ul-Haw has keen interest in field of Gastroenterology and is incharge of Endoscopic uinit Allied Hospital which conducts approximate 1500 endoscopises a year. There are 13 research papers on his credit. Dr. Ahmad Bilal is the Assistant Professor and 2 senior registrars are involved in teaching.

MEDICAL UNIT II

Medical unit II is located in the 2nd floor of 1st phase of the Allied hopsital. Dr. Abdul Hafeez Chaudry is the Associate Professor and Dr. Khalid Amin is the Assistant Professor and Dr. Amir Shaukat is senior Registrars. This Unit has 64 beds for the patients out of which 8 beds are specific for Intensive care. The unit has an impressive rotation programme for residents. The medical unit II has trainee registrars in its working team which not only provide efficiency in the management of patients rather enhance the academics of this unit. this unit is specifically attached with nephrology section of Allied Hospital. There is continuous teaching programme for the undergraduates and medical graduated advanced modes of teaching in the medical science. This unit has effective treads of participation in the FCPS degree II part examination. Many doctors of this unit have particularly interested in the new advancement in the field of medical professional . The modern concept of medicine are propagated into young doctor by means of seminar and special lectures on various topics.
MEDICAL UNIT III

This unit is headed by Associate Professor Dr. Mohammad Ashraf while Dr. Akmal Sharif is Assistant Professor in the unit. It is a teaching floor with 60 beds having a 6 bedded Intensive care unit and a general medical ward. The unit provides services in the out patient department twice weekly and conducting a diabetic clinic regularly on out door basis.

At moment it is playing a comprehensive role in training of undergraduate and post graduate candidates. There are post graduate trainees for FCPS-II examination. They are all actively participating in teaching and research activities.

Clinico-pathological/Mortality conferences are being regularly held in this unit
MEDICAL UNIT IV

Medical Unit IV is situated in the district Head quarter Hospital. This unit has two wards in its working jurisdiction i.e Ali Ward and Tariq Ward. The unit is headed by Associate Professor Dr. Zahid Yaseen Hashmi while Dr. Amir Hussain and Dr. Maqsood Ahmad are Assistant Professors. It has 8 bedded intensive care unit which is well equipped with monitors and resuscitative apparatus. This unit is serving in the interior of the city as regards the medical facilities. It gas got very much calculated programme for the management of the patients as well as the teaching of the graduates and under graduates of medical Profession. Regular case presentations and bed discussions are involved in the daily schedule of this unit. Medical seminars are held on monthly basis in which the undergraduate and graduates participate and the new advancements in the medical field are communicated by the seniors to juniors. The unit has special training programme for the postgraduates. A great number of the doctors are grown specialists after being trained in this unit.

Department of Surgery consists of four Surgical Units. Three of them are in Allied Hospital and one in DHQ Hospital. Details of each unit is given below.

Department of Surgery

SURGICAL UNIT I

Prof.A.G. Rehen is the head of the surgical department and head of the unit 1. Other members of the unit are Dr. Mohammad sajid, Assistant Professor Surgery. Dr.M. Moazzam Manzoor, Assistant Professor Surgery Dr.Tariq Ayub and Dr.Khalid Pervaiz, Senior Registrars.

Unit 1 consists of 56 beds including male and female. Unit deals surgical emergencies and elective cases. In the emergency ward trauma surgeon remain on duty and surgery in being carried out under his close supervision. Speacialities of this unit are biliary and thyroid surgery.24 post graduate trainee registrars are in this unit. Seven candidate trained in this unit have passed completed there fellowships and M.S degrees.

Surgical Unit-I is working in Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Unit has 14 House Surgeons. Ward has capacity of 55 beds.

SURGICAL UNIT II

Prof. Dr. Sujha tahir, head of the unit. Dr.M. Yousaf Shah, Associate Professor Surgery Dr. Zahid Imtiaz Dogar, Assistant Professor Surgery. Prof. Shuja Tahir has the unique distinction of being the chief editor of the only medical journal published from Faisalabad and setting up the concept of trauma surgeon.

The results of F.C.P.S surgery surpassed all previous results and boast in having very able senior registrars in the unit.

The consultants of this unit have varied surgical interests like Urology, Plastic surgery, thyroid, biliary surgery, thoracic surgery and not the least laparoscopic surgery. The unit has also set up and maintained the only breast clinic in the hospital for the last 3 years. The unit has well equipped medical library in the ward. surgical audit of the under and post graduate students is being carried out every year. The undergraduates are being assessed by the most recent method of evaluation “THE OSCE”.

SURGICAL UNIT III

Surgical unit III is housed in 54 bedded, Siddique Ward, Allied Hospital Faisalabad. The unit is actively involved in the training and evaluation of undergraduate and post graduate students. Prof.Riaz Hussain, FRCS is the head of surgical unit 111.he is interested in the consistent improvement of the clinical care of patients admitted in this unit. Our objective is to keep improving training and evaluation of the undergraduates and postgraduate students. In addition to regular training special training programmes are arranged twice a week.

Three retired Professors of Surgery, Prof. Altaf Hussain, Prof.M.Athar. and Prof.Wali Muhammad Saghir regularly participate in the postgraduate classes. The unit along with the consultants from other wards conducted FCPS Part.11 conference.

Two energetic assistant professors are Dr. Tariq Farooq, FCPS, Dr. Faisal Bilal Lodhi and Dr. Syed Waqar Ali Shah.FCPS. The unit has got 2 senior registrars Dr. M.Shafique and Dr. M. Akram. Twelve postgraduate students are doing their training for FCPS,FRCS and MS examinations.

Prof. Riaz Hussain in addition to his work in the ward, is organizing Medical research as Honorary Principal Scientific Officer of P.M.R.C center PMC Faisalabad .he is the Director of Students Affairs, Member of Disciplinary Committee, Warden of the Doctors Hostel.

SURGICAL UNIT IV

Surgical Unit-IV is a newly established Surgical Unit in DHQ Hospital Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad. Prof. Dr. Maj (R) Abdur Rashid is incharge of the unit while Dr. Javed Iqbal is Assistant Professor. Dr. Akram Ch. is the district surgeon of the unit. This unit is involved in medicolegal and medical board cases and providing surgical cover to jail inmates. This unit is playing an important role in the training of under- graduate and postgraduate students. For their theoretical learning as well as practical training in addition to routine ward activities regular clinical conferences and discussions are held at least twice a week and senior teachers as well as experts from other surgical specialties participate actively in these activities.

Department of Ophthalmology

 INTRODUCTION

The eye OPD started functioning right from the beginning of Allied Hospital. The indoor Department started functioning in April, 1996.

Consultants of the department Assistant Professor Dr. Sultan Mahmood (Head of Deptt), Senior Registrar Dr. Muhammad Arif. It is well equipped unit and provides all necessary eye management facilities to its patients. It caters for a large area of Punjab Province. It has got provision for admission of 54 indoor patients. All types of eye surgery, both anterior as well as posterior segment is being performed over here. It also provides teaching facilities to undergraduate and post graduate ophthalmology trainees.

ENT Department

ENT UNIT I

ENT Unit I is working in Allied Hospital Faisalabad. Prof. Dr. Farooq Mian is the head of department. It is a well equipped department consisting of 30 beds having facilities for audiometric assessment of hearing impaired persons. All sorts of ENT and head and neck Surgery is being performed including Rhinoplasty, Faciomaxillary surgery and thyroid surgery etc. Prof. Dr. Farooq Mian has special interests in Augmentation and Rhinoplasty.

The unit has OPD on Monday, Thursday, and Friday and Operation list rest of the days of week. ENT I is also known as Iqbal Ward.

ENT I has 6 emergency beds and receives emergency on Tuesday, Wednessday, Saturday, and on alternate Sundays. Unit receives emergency from whole district of Faisalabad. For emergency cases operation theatre remains open 24 hours a day. Foreign bodies, Epistaxis, Tracheostomies, and Trauma Nose and Face are the emergencies which usually comes and straight away taken by ENT department.

ENT I also has a emergency examination room in the ward where minor surgical procedures are carried out under local anesthesia. Paramedical and Medical staff gives 24 hour cover.

Department also has a Professor's office, Doctors office, and Nursing staff office. Special attention is given towards the teaching of students who are taught in ward, OPD and operation theatres. For their teaching department has also made it possible to capture different operations through digital camera and show the students through computer screen.

Department is also recognized by CPSP for the training of Postgraduate FCPS and MCPS students and also for MS in ENT. 4 seats are available for House Job in ENT Unit I.

 ENT UNIT II

The department of ENT II was established at Allied hospital Faisalabad In Feb 2000 after the bifurcation of ENT department into ENT I and ENT II. The department consist of Professor, Senior Registrar, 3 registrars and four 4 House officers. One post of Associate Professor and one post of registrar is lying vacant. The department consists of 24 beds, three operation days and two consultant carry out patient clinics. The unit provide 24 hour emergency cover on Monday, Thursday, Friday and on alternate Sunday. On an average the department is operating 70 patients as cold cases every month. The department is recognized for postgraduate training like MCPS and FCPS.

ENT II also has a examination room, doctors room and Professor Office. A Teaching room is also present for the teaching of students. Teaching is also done in OPD and operation theatre. Prof. Muhammad Ali takes special interests in the teaching of medical students.

4 separate beds are available for the dental surgery cases in ENT Unit II. Dental surgeons admit their patients in ENT II and visits them regularly.

Department is also know as Kamil ward. Doctors and of ENT unit 1, along with the help of Dental surgeons carry out faciomaxillary Surgery.

Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics

GYNECOLOGY & OBSTETRICS UNIT I

Unit-I is situated in Allied Hospital and unit II is located at DHQ hospital. Unit-I is a tertiary care hospital receiving emergencies from Faisalabad division and its adjacent rural population. It is a busy unit and undertaking about 3500-4000 deliveries per year.

This unit was first started in 31.03.87, by Professor Altaf Bashir who was a very well known Gynecologist and worked very hard in community towards lowering the maternal mortality and since then this unit has progressed and still works towards the initial aim of lowering maternal, perinatal mortality and morbidity. Staff of the unit include Dr. Samina Khalid, Assistant Professor, 13 Registrar and 21 Resident House Surgeons.

Full facilities are available for operative deliveries and there is an emergency O.T. available for emergency caesarean section. An anesthetist is on call 24 hours a day and backup facilities for blood transfusion and laboratory tests are also present and laboratory tests are also present.

There are separate areas for:-

1) Ist stage room

2) Eclampsia room

3) Delivery suite.

Gyne operation theatre is an independent theatre which is fully air conditioned and has four working operation tables with anesthesia machines. Sterilization is by a central plant. The theatre area is marked and every one enters it after changing to maintain sterilization. The gyne O.T. is fully equipped with the latest hi-tech e.g. laparoscope, hysteroscopy, colposcope. There are facilities for prenatal diagnosis. There are facilities for prenatal diagnosis of congenital anomalies like chorionic villus sampling and amniocentesis.

GYNAECOLOGY & OBSTETRICS UNIT II

The department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Unit-II is presently operating Divisional Headquarter Hospital Faisalabad which is a 560 bed tertiary care public health facility. The department has a Assistant Professor Dr. Sumera Tahir, Senior Registrar Dr. Shahida Iftikhar and two gynecologists Dr. Shaista Nagra and Dr. Farida Sardar. There are presently 18 postgraduate FCPS-II students working as resident registrars and 13 house surgeons.

The indoor department has 55 beds divided into 3 sections, the Gynecology, Antenatal and postnatal wards. There is a labor suit providing 24 hour emergency facility 7 days a week. There is an Operation theatre with 3 functioning section catering for both emergency as well as elective surgical procedures.

The out patients department works six days a week with a Consultant providing daily cover.

Department of Pediatric Medicine
cwdKids.com - Spring 2003Department of Pediatrics, Punjab Medical College located in the Allied and DHQ Hospital. It has 100 beds divided into section of Neonatology, Intensive Care, 24-hour emergency and a play area for healthy children along with the beds for general medical problems of children.

We have a conference room and a well-equipped library. This department imparts various kinds of services to the sick children and is involved in various research projects (many publications from the Department of Pediatrics), responsible for the integration of various government projects like Acute respiratory infection, control of promotion of breast feeding projects.

This department is fully recognized by the PMDC, Royal College of Physicians in UK as well as by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan.

This department is also responsible for the training of specialists like MCPS, FCPS in Paediatrics. So far more than 10 doctors have completed their FCPS.

Department of Pediatric Surgery

The Department of Pediatric Surgery has been functioning under the supervision of the Surgical Unit I for the past eight years Dr.Sajid Hamid and Dr.Khlaid Mahmood are working in the department. We shifted to our new premises in Nishtar Ward on 1st of july,1999.
The department has 24 beds and we are in the process of setting up a surgical neonatal nursery in one portion of our ward. Our OPD attendance in increasing gradually as awareness of this specialty is increasing. During the first 9 months of this year we have examined 2477 patients in the OPD, 64 patients have been admitted from the OPD and Emergency and 601 operations have been performed on the elective lists and in the emergency.
The Department is on call 24 hours a day and receives requests for consultations from various departments of the hospital. FCPS II trainees from Surgical Units I,III & IV rotate through our Department on the regular basis as a part of their training. An application has also been submitted to the CPSP for recognition of the Department for training in FCPS Pediatric Surgery.

Department of Orthopedics

Department was established in 1979 in DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad. It was shifted to Allied Hospital in 1996. It consists of 54 beds, operation theatre complex and Out patient Department. Faculty members include Dr. Ajmal Yasin, Dr. Javed Iqbal, Dr. Tariq Mehmood, Dr. Shahid Ayub.

Unit takes emergency six days a week and deals with all sorts of limb and spinal trauma patients. Joint replacement, spinal surgery and reconstructive surgery of limbs is done routinely. About 7200 patients per year are seen in OPD, 1872 patients admitted in ward in 1999. 1899 operations were done in 1999. Seven Post graduate trainee registrar are undergoing a structured training programme in the unit.

Department of Neurosurgery

Department was established at Allied Hospital in 1990. Dr. Tariq Salah ud Din was appointed as the first Assistant Professor of this unit, which was initially associated with Surgical Unit-I. Since October , 1991 the Department was given independent status having 4 Medical Officers and 4 Senior House Officers. A job of Associate Professor was also created in 1995. At the present moment the Department has 48 beds, 4 intensive care unit beds, two operation theaters and 2 out patients clinic days. Unit provides 24 hours emergency cover 7 days a week. On an average department is seeing 200 patients per week in O.P.D. and 60 patients are operated per month as cold cases. The department was give postgraduate training status in 1996, when it was affiliated with PGMI, Lahore for M.S. Neurosurgery.

Department of Cardiology

The cardiology Department of Allied Hospital Punjab Medical College comprises coronary care Unit and cardiology ward. To star with there no plans to established a CCU and Cardiology ward in this hospital. Incidentally a 10-bedded CCU was established. This CCU was being run on rotational basis by physicians. Dr. Iftikhar Rasool took over as first cardiologist. After his departure to UK, the CCU again came under the supervision of physician. Dr.Arshraf Ch. joined for a brief period. Dr.Khaliad Amin (Physician) made a great effort for interior renovation full-fledged Cardiology Department has been established in very short span of time. Later Dr. Bilal Zekria joined as professor and Head of the Department in March 2001, which gave great boost to clinical cardiology in Faisalabad.

The cardiology Department of Allied Hospital Punjab Medical College is a tertiary care center, which caters large population of Faisalabad and its periphery. Because of its also providing care to the population of adjoining of Sargodha and Multan. A brief introduction of department is as under.

CORNORY CARE UNITThere are 12 beds in CCU whit all the monitoring facilities. Two to three temporary pacemakers are implanted daily & 1-2 permanent pace makers are placed monthly on average.

Thrombolytic therapy has now been very well established.

EMERGENCY ROOM

4-beded, emergency room with monitoring and resuscitation facilities has established in CCU.

CARDIOLOGY WARD

14 beds have been made available recently for the stable patients.

PERMANENT PACE MAKER

Faisalabad is the second city of Punjab after Lahore where PPM are being implanted. First PPM was implanted in sep.1999, since then 24 patients of complete heart block are treated successfully by PPM implantation.

Very recently first internal cardiac defibrillator (ICD) of Punjab is implanted by the joint venture of cardiology Depts. of Allied Hospital Faisalabad and mayo hospital Lahore.

 DIAGNOSTIC FACILITIES

2) ETT

3) Thallium studies and ETT at PINUM under supervision of cardiology Department.

4) A bedside mobile X-ray unit.

5) A fully operation Fluoroscopy Unit.

FUTURE PLAN

This unit providing almost all the facilities short of angiographies and Cardiac Surgery for which patients are referred to PIC LAHORE or AFIC RAWALPINDI. Efforts are being made to establish a second CCU with CATH LAB and Cardiac surgery Theaters. Building plans for these have been prepared by chief architect and submitted for approval.

Dr. Bilal Zekria, & Dr. Naeem Aslam along their team are best trying to develop this unit at par with the best unit in the country. May Allah bless us in all our future endeavors to cater the need for this thickly populated area or the country.

Department of Nephrology

Kidney Diseases are on the rise and therefore on top priority the Government. To manage these patients in a better way, the Nephrology and the Urology sections were amalgamated and established under one roof.

Nephrology unit is recognized for FCPS training by the college of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. OPD is carried out twice weekly and around 3500 patients are seen annually.

Nephrology unit has its own Dialysis center with the facilties of separate dialysis machines for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. Dialysis center of Nephrology Unit is the best in the whole city. About 3000 dialysis are done every year.

There is also Biopsy room where unltrasound guided renal biopsies are taken.

Department of Urology

Urology is a rapidly developing specialty in the world. Last decade has seen new addition of modern armamentarium in the field of genitourinary surgery. Minimal invasive techniques in urology have revolutionized the patient's management. Prof. Dr. Zahid Iqbal is head of the deptt. and Dr. Safdar H Sial is the Assistant Professor.

Faisalabad is the 3rd biggest city of Pakistan. Keeping in view the dire need of the specialty in the region, Department of Urology was established at PMC/Allied Hospital in April, 1999. In January 2000 First Renal Transplantation in the institution was done.

Department of Urology is also recognized for FCPS training by the college of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. At the moment, Renal Transplantation, endourology, and reconstructive surgery is carried out in the department. OPD is carried out twice weekly and around 4500 patients are seen annually, 1420 surgical procedures are carried out per year.


Department of Psychiatry

The Department is the third largest in the province and providing clinical and forensic services to two divisions i.e. Faisalabad & Sargodha. OPD & liaison services are provided to both Allied & DHQ hospitals while 60 bedded inpatient units are situated in DHQ hospital only. A Model Drug abuse Treatment Center is providing services to addict and their families. Patients in the jails are also treated. The Department has rehabilitation room having color TV, indoor games (like table tennis carom etc.), group therapy room, books, magazines etc. The dept. has its own library and audio-visual room. Teaching activities include teaching of behavioral sciences to 1st and 2nd year classes, clinical classes to fourth year and theory classes to final year. Postgraduate teaching is also provided and many of the trainees have passed different diplomas and providing and many of the trainees have passed different Diplomas and providing services in Pakistan and Abroad. Teaching of applied psychology to nursing student and paramedical student is also carried out. Training courses on priority mental health disorders or Doctors and Paramedical student is also carried out. Training courses on priority mental health disorders for Doctors and Paramedics are organized. The dept. is running outreach program to decrease stigma and increase awareness about mental health and addiction. Twice a week a team consisting to Doctor, Medical social offices and member of NGIO goes to school & health centers and deliver lectures. A number of research activities are being carried out in the department.

Department of Chest Diseases

The Department started in 1981 in an out patient room of the District Headquarter Hospital, Faisalabad shared by the Department of Psychiatry on alternate days. The facility for patients was provided almost 10 years later in Rehmat ward. The department has had tremendous progress since then. It runs a very busy out patients, where (70-100) patients are attended. A full record of all the out patients has been maintained by the Department from its own resources since 1981-82. The inpatient has 36 beds where all the serious and complicated chest disease patients are admitted for management under supervision of 2 consultant chest Physicians aided by 2 specialist Registrars, 2 senior Medical Officers and 3 trainee House Officers. The Dept. offers the facilities of fibreoptic bronchoscopy, spirometry, pulse oxymetry, controlled ventilation with ventilators and defibrillators, with ECG monitors etc. The ward has been centrally air conditioned through the courtesy of Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed Randhawa this year. This department has already been recognized by the college of physicians and surgeons for MCPS training and many of our young colleagues have benefited successfully by attaining MCPS and DTCD diplomas from the relevant authorities and are serving as Chest specialists at various places in Punjab. The House Officer are trained in performing Chest Intubation, pleural Biopsy, FNAC and Lymph node Biopsies, in addition to the usual training in the management of acute and chronic disease problems. The Department is expected to be soon recognized for FCPS training, the application being in the pipeline for this purpose. The Department is actively involved in medical research. It has 10 publications to its credit.

The department of Dermatology, Punjab Medical College Faisalabad is headed by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Azam Bokhari who started the department as its founder in August, 1983 in DHQ Hospital, Faisalabad. Other staff members now include Dr. Shahid Javed Akhtar assistant professor, Dr. Muhammad Arif Mann and Dr. Mazhar Iqbal Raja, 5 FCPS trainees and 3 DCPS trainess and 4 house officers.

The department conducts regular OPDs at Allied and DHQ hospital where more than 200 patients are seen daily. There is 30 bedded in-patient unit at DHQ hospital and the unit is now fully recognized for training in FCPS Dermatology and rotational training in allied disciplines.

In addition to the routine care of the skin patients, the Dermatology Department is providing specialized facilities like electro surgery, epilation, cryosurgery, skin surgical procedures, patch testing, mycology and photo chemotherapy for the benefit of the ailing humanity. Department is also supervising a leprosy home located at Jhang Road Faisalabad. It is actively involved in academic and research activities and has many local and international publications to its credit. It has also hosted the 7th International Conference of Dermatology held in November, 2002.

Department of Anesthesiology

Department of Anesthesia started functioning in 1987. This department is giving Anesthesia cover of Emergency and routine lists of DHQ and Allied Hospital. Department is also providing services in intensive care Unit. Dr. Robina Ejaz is Assistant Professor of this department and five anesthetists are also working in Anesthesia this department. In addition to senior staff twenty four medical officers and also serving.

Anesthesia Department of Allied and DHQ Hospital is well equipped and staffed. Because of trained and qualified staff we are pioneer in Brain ambrysm and kidney transplant at Faisalabad. This department is also planning to give cover for Coronary By Pass Surgery.

Department of Plastic Surgery

Department of Plastic Surgery started functioning in April 1994 as a part of surgical Unit I and later of surgical Unit III. It became a separate unit in June 1999 with a capacity of thirty beds. Dr. Ghulam Qadir Fayya is the incharge of this unit and other staff include Dr. Rana Tanveer Ahmad, (FCPS Gen. Surgery) Senior Registrars, Dr. Muhammad Asim and Dr. Zahid Mahmood Nagra, both FCPS in Plastic Surgery and Dr. RAna Liaqat Ali, Registrar. In addition Surgical Unit III provides one medical officer on rotation basis. The ward also has three House Surgeons.

A number of developments have been made in the unit with the help of citizens of Faisalabad, including air conditioning, false ceiling, a clean and dedicated washing area/dressing room. extension of OT No.8 and construction of a new separate operation theatre block.

Doing two OPDs and two surgical lists a week; the department caters to the needs of burn patients as well as plastic surgical cases of this area. The scope includes acute and long term management of all types of burns and reconstructive procedures for congenital, post traumatic, post tumor ablation and miscellaneous deformities. There is an ongoing rhinoplasty clinic in collaboration with ENT department and very very frequent liaison with almost all the other specialties to help in their management.

The Department has always played an active role in academic activities. It has successfully organized 5th international conference of PAPS (Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons) in addition to extending every possible help to others such events in PMC. The unit has a number of ongoing research projects including the role in penoscrotal skin avulsions, secondary cleft lip management, management of Basal cell Carcinoma and role of custom made silicone Gel Sheet in Hypertrophic Scars and Keloids.

Department of Radiology

The department started working in 1986. This department is providing important services in the diagnostic procedures and facilitating the clinical side in better diagnosis. Department is fully equipped with latest imaging equipment which includes CR scan, One Angiography, four 500 MA machines , one 1000 MA machine, two ultrasound and one color Doppler machine. Department of Radiology provides the Radiological facilities round the clock which includes emergency CT Scan and X-Rays.

Radiology Department remains open for 12 hours that is 8am to 8pm, where emergency myelogram, CT Scan and USG are done. The evening Department works with one postgraduate Medical Officer to facilitate the patients coming from 2pm to 8pm.

Department of  Oncology

Oncology/Radiotherapy Department Punjab Medical College/Allied Hospital started functioning on August 10,1996 under the supervision of Dr. Syed Ijaz Hussain Shah as head of the Department, who is luckily the graduate of Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad.

This Department offers the service of radiation therapy and chemotherapy on out-door as well as indoor to people from Faisalabad and Sargodha Division a part of Lahore Division who are suffering from cancer.

Radiatherapy Department is 60 bedded unit.Up to Aungust 2000, 33750 patients have received Radiation therapy. Chemotherapy had been administered to 8380 patients. Number of indoor and out door patients are 4742 and 22421 respectively.Registered cancer patients are 3004.

This department is involved in International Cancer Research project on Carcinoma of Lung Study BIE-MC-JHQZ on Asia Pacific region.

A phase-II study of locally advanced cancer of Head & Neck is being conducted in collaboration with Cancer Research Group of Pakistan.

Research protocols on Brain Tumour and Eudvsisin cancer chemotherapy are going on.

Inspite of Limited resources this Department is fulfilling its job in a nice way
