Basic Medical Sciences Departments
There are 7 basic departments in the college i.e. Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, Pathology, and Community Medicine Each department has separate building where they teach the students of college. Every department has its own lecture hall where lectures are given to the students. All the basic departments are full filling the needs of Medical students. They have their tutorial rooms, museums, and practical rooms. Department of Anatomy INTRODUCTION Anatomy department is one of the major department of college. It was established in 1973 by late Prof. Dr. M.H. Toosy, the first head of the department and the first Principal of Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad. Later on it was renovated by Prof. Dr. Nasir Aziz in late 90's. Anatomy department has a huge 3 storied building, an independent lecture hall and a centrally air-conditioned dissection hall surrounded by lush green lawns. It is equipped with all modern teaching aids like Epidiascope, Slide projector, teaching microscopes, film projector, overhead projector etc. Anatomy department plays a pivotal role in preparing students for higher medical education. The staff of the department is actively involved in achieving this goal. To facilitate understanding of the subject Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Ahmad has a book of Human Embryology first ever written in Pakistan by a Pakistani author for undergraduate and post-graduate students, forwarded by Nawab Muhammahd Khan Ph.D., Head of the department of Anatomy Umal Qura University, Makka Mukarma, Saudia Arab. In addition he has many research papers on his credit. Our Associate and Assistant Professors also have on their credit publication of research articles in various medical journals. Our demonstrators are also very keen in studies. Until now about 20 of them have successfully completed their post-graduate studies while working in the department and now are competent specialists in various field. Recently 5 of the demonstrators have been enrolled as M.Phil Anatomy students by the University of Punjab, Lahore. FACILITIES 1. Fully aircconditioned well maintained dissection hall. 2. Well equipped Histology Laboratory having teaching microscope and individual light microscopes. 3. A well established museum, having a vast collection of dissected specimens and plastic models of human body parts. 4. Comprehensive teaching facilities which includes a capacious lecture hall, overhead projector room equipped with Anatomy dissection films and slide for surface anatomy teaching. Department of Physiology INTRODUCTION
Department of Physiology
is one of the most active department of the college. It keeps
the students busy in academic activities. Department has a Physiology
lab that is equipped with latest teaching equipments. For the
tutorial discussion a tutorial room is also present. Recently
a computer lab has been established in the department where students
are taught at latest Physiology Software. Department of Biochemistry INTRODUCTION The Biochemistry department started functioning in 1974 with the establishment of Punjab Medical College. Professor Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad MBBS, M.Phil was the first head of the department. After his transfer to Nishtar Medical College, Multan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, MSc, Ph.D took over the charge and remained head of the department till 9-8-2002. At present Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saeed, MBBS, M.Phill, Ph.D is working as head of the department after taking over the charge on 05-09-02. Students Laboratory: For practical training of undergraduate (1st year & 2nd year MBBS) medical students. Postgraduate Research Laboratory: It has facilities for postgraduate training, clinical work and research. Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics INTRODUCTION Pharmacology Department has the most comfortable lecture hall with most modern methods of audio-visuals. Department has two labs i-e Pharmacology and Pharmacy where labs practical demonstrations of students are conducted. Both labs are well-equipped. A dog demonstration room is also present for students where they can perform their experiments on dogs. The department also conducts examinations for Dispenser class. Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology INTRODUCTION Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology is responsible for teaching in the subject of forensic medicine and toxicology. Department consists of an Autopsy Section, a Biological Laboratory and a Museum. The autopsy of the department is situated in the premises of Allied Hospital, Faisalabad. All the Postmortem examinations of Faisalabad city are conducted in this section. Biological Laboratory & Museum are situated in the college campus. The students are taught the Practical methods of Examinations of the Medico legal importance of different body fluids such as blood, semen and saliva etc in Biological Laboratory. Museum is very important teaching area in which students observe the hundreds of specimens of different nature concerning Toxicology, Traumatology and other Pathological conditions. Department of Pathology INTRODUCTION This department consists of a Lecture hall, 2 Pathology labs, a Museum, & a Histopathology section. Histopathology section deals with cases from attached teaching hospitals (ALLIED & DHQ hospital). Keeping abreast with modern trends in diagnostic medicine, fine needle aspiration cytology was introduced and currently more than 600 cases are done annually. Department of Community Medicine INTRODUCTION The department has a beautiful museum used for the purpose of coaching students. The subject is taught in 4th year M.B.B.S. Mode of education is through general lectures and demonstrations. A batch of 12 students remains in rotation with the department. Here they have to perform certain compulsory activities which include visits to vaccination center, family planning center, BHU, RHC, infectious diseases hospital, drug addiction center, institute of nuclear medicine, community water supply plants, sewerage disposal plants. In addition they have to attend film show on certain topics related with the subject.
Like other departments, the department of community medicine is geared up to impart latest and best quality of medical education to undergraduates e.g. Prime Minister’s program, Social action program and health management |
