Description:-
The Department of Orthodontics offers a four-year residency for advanced training in Orthodontics, Dentofacial Orthopedics and Orthognathic Surgery. This postgraduate program is designed to offer a broad spectrum of Clinical, Didactic, Research and Teaching experience in the field. Emphasis of the program is placed on strong clinical and scholarly skills in preparing the residents for the FCPS-II Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics, conducted by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan .
The program trains residents with a broad knowledge and understanding of Research Methodology, Growth and Development, Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Biomechanics, Craniofacial Anomalies, Interdisciplinary Dentistry, Surgical Orthodontics, and teaching.
Patients care is conducted in the clinics of the Orthodontic Department housed in the conveniently located defence campus. Facilities are available for complex radiographic and diagnostic imaging. Patients are screened in the clinic and accepted for treatment based on the cause of sickness, education benefit and needs of the residents. This clinical experience combined with research and teaching experience ensures that residents are qualified to seek and obtain academic position in schools around the country.
Objective:-
The program teaches state-of-the-art clinical care in an environment modeled after private Orthodontic Practice. The curriculum is composed of seminars and small group instruction with emphasis on critical thinking and problem solving. Our objective is not only to familiarize future Orthodontists with contemporary techniques but also to teach them how to interpret cutting-edge scientific information and use it to approach clinical challenges logically and practically. Clinical experience consists of wide variety of Orthodontic patients, including complex cases requiring Orthogenetic surgery and patients with Facial Clefts and other Craniofacial Abnormalities. An original research experience is an integral part of our program with each project intended to produce results suitable for publication in an international journal. The successful completion of a research project is a requirement of the program.
Duration of Training:-
The Orthodontic Residency Program is a 4 years full-time training program.
Eligibility:-
-
BDS or equivalent degree approved by PMDC.

One year house-job in dentistry in a PMDC approved institution

FCPS Part-I in Dentistry
Selection Procedure:-
Applications are invited once a year for the two available positions. A written exam is conducted to shortlist the candidates for interview.
Recognition of Training Program:-
Four years Orthodontic Residency Program is recognized for FCPS Examination by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Pakistan .
ii) Operative Dentistry Residency Program:-

Description:-
The Department of Operative Dentistry offers a four-year residency for advance training in Operative Dentistry.
The focus of the program is to prepare residents for the FCPS-II, Fellowship Examination in Operative Dentistry,conducted by the College of Physicians & Surgeons, Pakistan.
The program provides residents with a firm grounding in various specialities of Operative Dentistry,including Endodontics, Fixed Prosthodontics & Paedodontics.
The subject of Dental Materials is also covered in the program.
One of the many benefits of the residency program is that other specialties are also at hand & therefore an integrated approach to resident teaching & patient management is provided. Specific to the residency program the Operative Dentistry and Orthodontics, Periodontal , Prosthodontics ,& Surgical interface is also taught and clinically provided.
A large patient base is provided from the Institute’s outpatient facility. Patients are examined, diagnosed, & then referred to the relevant departments. This advantage of a large patient base is two-fold, in that it provides residents with a large patient source for clinical exposure, & is also a resource for resident’s research which is mandatory aspect of the training.
Objective:-
The program provides a broad exposure for specialist clinical dental practice. Teaching is resident based & interactive with tutorials and problem based learning. Residents are required to give regular journal presentations not only to improve academically , but also to improve their interactive skills , which will both be necessary for their future careers. Large clinical exposure is facilitated, to ensure a complete range of patient management & clinical care.
Research projects are also to be undertaken

Residency posts are first advertised in the national press. Applicants are subsequently asked to appear for an exam.
Candidates are then short listed and asked to appear for an interview & Viva.
