The FMH College of Medicine
& Dentistry has been established to educate, train and inspire
young people in the science of healing and the art of communication.
Using modern information technology alongside conventional
approaches, it aims to produce nationally and internationally
recognised professionals. Together with its alumni, it will strive
to make Pakistan a healthier and happier place located
in the center of Lahore, Pakistan's second
largest city. The College is sponsored by Ferozsons Trust which also
runs the Fatima Memorial Hospital and it’s other affiliated
institutions.
Opening its doors in 2000, the College has come a long way
in a short span of time. Affiliated with
University of Health Sciences and recognised by the Pakistan Medical
& Dental Council (PMDC) in its first year of existence, it is
offering quality education to talented, motivated and deserving
students. The College has a purpose built building and contains
latest equipment and teaching aids. A well-stocked library and a
computer lab constitute our Learning Resource Centre. The curriculum
of the college is as laid down by Pakistan Medical and Dental
Council. The FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry endeavours to
continuously improve the curriculum.
The FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry is the only
college of its kind in the private sector that is being run on a not
for profit basis. All the income generated from the college is
channelled towards providing health care to patients who would
otherwise not have been able to afford proper medical treatment. It
is also used to provide financial assistance to deserving students
on the basis of merit and need, after careful scrutiny. Recently,
the college has also offered a privately funded scholarship to a
disadvantaged student from Upper Dir, (N.W.F.P.). Imran Khan, a
bright and intelligent young adult was awarded the scholarship
because of his outstanding results, his interpersonal and
communication skills, his extra-curricular activities, his inability
to pay for further education, and his desire to return to Dir and
serve his own community. It is hoped that eventually 30 to 50% of
the student body will comprise of brilliant, deserving and motivated
students from rural areas, who will be awarded need based
scholarships, so as to create a cadre of doctors who will serve
rural communities. The FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry looks
forward to more scholarships being granted by individuals in the
private sector, so that deserving students like Imran Khan can
fulfil their own dreams, as well as Pakistan’s, by becoming
qualified doctors and dentists and serving their
people.
