EPILEPSY The surgical option Some of us, with certain types of seizures that begin in just one part of the brain, may be helped by an operation to remove a small amount of tissue in the area involved. You may want to discuss this with your doctor if drugs haven't brought your seizures under control. She/he will refer you to a specialist who will perform tests to determine whether such an operation could help. Only a very small number of people can be helped by such surgery. There are still only a few centers in the UK specializing in this type of surgery, so you may have to expect a long, frustrating wait. However, if you are one of the lucky ones, an operation could result in your seizures stopping or substantially improving. |
